It's hard to think of Pokemon in the style of Breath of the Wild in practicality. Sure, anyone can edit a screenshot to have Gyarados in a BOTW lake or Rapidash racing across the field, but isn't that just what the Wild Area is? The illusion of an open world, the type that would look good in screenshots, but without meaning or purpose. Without any heart or direction, BOTW would not be the same game. It gives you freedom to go wherever you want, but it also provides contours across the map to steer you towards towns, it makes sure each location is thematically linked, and you often need to hit multiple landmarks to secure the tools and ingredients to reach the next one. Even though I'm not the biggest fan of it, I have to admire the level of design on show here. It's not a level I think Pokemon can match, and that's before you introduce the much more complicated issue of where you put the Pokemon and how you offer freedom while ensuring players don't meet their doom at the feathers of an overpowered Hawlucha 40 minutes into the g

A Monster Hunter structure means there will be a central hub for you to return to, and various Wild Area-esque zones for you to explore in turn - but unlike the Wild Area itself, you will be exploring them with purpose. It probably won't be to hunt down and slay a Garchomp, but the game looks set to offer a sense of direction in every open area it offers you. This is a halfway house between the rigid routes of the main game and the Pokemon Hyrule of everyone's dreams, but it's probably for the b

The first on Nintendo consoles, Monster Hunter Wilds skills guide|https://monsterhunterwildsforge.com/ Hunter Tri was released on the Wii in 2010, the first since the original to launch exclusively on a home console. Tri brings players a living, breathing coastal ecosystem, with new creatures and mechanics to challenge hunters with their AI companion, Cha-Cha, an alternate take on the Felyne companions the series was used

For a lot of players, World is their first encounter with the series, while others have been around since the 3DS days , and some even longer with the archaic Playstation releases and PSP breakouts . Regardless of where players fit in, there's a lot to love about the franchise, and a pretty big backlog of under-the-radar games that deserve a lot more love than they found on initial rele

Monster Hunter Stories was a point of tension for a lot of players, seeing how absolutely different it is from the rest of the franchise. The series, while cute in its own moments, was never known for being particularly vivid in its presentation. This venture provided an adorably simplified look into the universe, somewhat more akin to Pokemon rather than the traditional dragon-slayer st

The handheld aspect was a huge influence on this concept, allowing players to bring their consoles with them to group up with friends on the go, without needing to configure complex servers or LAN parties. However, it still remained a primitive iteration of the future best-selling video game franch

Monster Hunter Generations was the 3DS-exclusive predecessor to Monster Hunter Generations Ultimate , and as a result, takes a lower spot on this list simply for a lack of content. However, the game still deserves a ton of respect for its innovations on the classic formula, from introducing special moves called Hunting Arts, a variety of Hunting Styles, and numerous returning monsters and locati

Updated March 17, 2025, by Blaise Santi : Monster Hunter Wilds has been out for nearly a month, giving players both old and new to dive into the grind of hunting monsters and crafting gear online with their friends. It's about time we look at how the new game stacks up against the previous entries in the franchise, as many of its quality-of-life changes and innovations may attract new fans as much as they could be alienating to longtime devotees of Monster Hunter. Whether you first heard of Monster Hunter when Monster Hunter World took the gaming world by storm in 2018, or you've been around since the early days on PlayStation, here's everything you need to know about the series' ranking from worst to b

Monster Hunter Freedom was based on Monster Hunter G, the Japanese-only expanded version of the original Monster Hunter. Made specifically for handheld audiences, Freedom was not a direct port of Monster Hunter G but instead based a lot of its content on the earlier g

I’m not a huge fan of Breath of the Wild as a game . I am, however, a humongous fan of Breath of the Wild as a world that exists on the Nintendo Switch and could be filled with Pokemon. Pokemon Legends: Arceus was supposed to be the delivery of ‘Pokemon but Breath of the Wild’, but it now seems to be more like ‘Pokemon but Monster Hunter: Rise’. That’s disappointing - Breath of the Wild is much closer to my hypothetical perfect Pokemon game than Monster Hunter - but it might just be for the bperson-holds-a-book-and-flips-through-the-pages.jpg?width=746&format=pjpg&exif=0&iptc=0
